FCU Installation Method Statement ( Split Units Ducted & DX Type)

Below document covers FCU installation method statement that covers steps to install FCU units of ducted and DX type air conditioners.

By following this HVAC method statement contractor shall ensure that the job execution complies with the project specification and manufacturer requirements and serves the intended function to satisfactory level.

Responsibilities for implementation of this method statement relies on mechanical engineer who is in-charge of HVAC division on a project.

Ducted or DX type AC units and accessories shall be in line with the approved material submittals.

Required Tools / Equipment

Material Handling and Storage

On receipt of the FCU and accessories at site, necessary precautions shall be taken for unloading, shifting & storage as follows:

All materials received at site shall be inspected to make sure that the materials are as per approved material submittals in terms of their make, model type, country of origin and capacity etc.

Upon arrival at site, the split unit shall be off-loaded carefully at site by the Site Supervisor using necessary manpower and required equipment to ensure that no damage is caused to the split units.

At site all the AC units will be stored in clean / dry place and adequate covering by tarpaulin sheets will be done to protect the equipment from deposition of construction dust till they are finally shifted to their installation location.

Any discrepancies or damage during delivery will be notified and reported to supplier for further action.

Make sure that all unit panels are fixed in place before moving.

Raise and set the unit down carefully.

General FCU Installation Requirements

Ensure that the proper clearance is available from civil side before commencement of works.

Make sure that the work area is clean and safe for carrying out the FCU installation activities.

Prior to start of works, it shall be ensured that the relevant shop drawings and coordination drawings are approved and issued for construction.

Materials inspection and approval shall be done by consultant before proceeding the installation works.

It shall be ensured that all electrical requirements such as cable trays, cable Trunking, entry side lugs, glands etc. are finalized and coordinated.

It shall be ensured that there is no clash with other previously installed services, and if there is any it shall be cleared.

Before installing the unit check whether proper space is available for servicing and maintenance.

If there is any services installed previously in the same area shall be shifted to the side of the ducted split unit for easy future maintenance.

Make sure that the material issued is as per the approved material submittal.

Installation Procedure for FCU Ducted & DX Types

The following procedure shall be followed for the installation of Ducted Split Units:

Visually inspect the exterior casing of the ducted split units / fan coil units for any damages or any missing of the parts during shipping and transferring of the units.

Ensure that the installation of the ducted split unit shall be carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s installation recommendations and specification.

Prior to start of installation, refer to the approved shop drawing related to the area of installation and ensure that required material is available at site as per approved material submittals. Ensure the unit model number tag number and location is same as indicated on the drawing.

After inspecting the work area, ensure that it is totally ready for installation. Then the required equipment shall be moved to the place of installation. Location should be able to support unit operating weight.

Proper marking shall be done for the unit location / supports as per approved shop drawing.

Make the holes and install the thread rods/hangers/supports as per approved details and drawings.

Check the equipment weight to ensure that the rigging equipment can handle that safely.

Under direct supervision of the Site Engineer / Site Supervisor lift the ducted split unit and hang it to the required level with proper isolators and support fixing.

Again make sure sufficient space for service and air flow for unit as per the approved shop drawing and contract specifications.

Make sure that all the spring isolators are in position and the ducted split unit is properly supported by the isolators through the hanging threaded rod of approved sizes.

Inspect and ensure there is no damage done during installation to the coils and fins.

Ensure that all the filters are fixed properly.

Ensure that the ducted Split unit is properly leveled.

After the unit is leveled tighten the support bolts to secure the units.

Connection of Pipes to Split Units

Connect the piping network to the ducted split unit / FCU as per the approved drawing.

Condensate drain pans shall be connected by using PVC/HDPS pipe as per approved material submittal.

The condensate pipe line shall be connected to nearest drainage point as per approved shop drawing.

Trap shall be provided in the condensate drain line.

If any rigid material has been used for the drainage piping, it is necessary to provide some kind of elastic coupling in the drainage line to absorb possible vibrations.

The drainage line should always be below the connection itself, and also should be sloped to facilitate the smooth drainage.

Insulate the drain line as per manufacturer recommendation and contract specification.

Equipment, pipe identification, tagging & labeling shall be carried out after completion of all works.

To prevent electrical shock or equipment damage, make sure the power supply sections are open before electrical connections are made. If this action is not taken, personal injury may occur.

Electrical Wiring of Split Units

Field wiring must comply with applicable local codes.

Take special care while making the earthing connection.

Fan motors shall be connected to wiring system as per the approved shop drawings.

Control wiring shall be carried out as detailed on respective approved controls shop drawing.

After the completion of the installation of the FCU/Ducted Split Unit electrical control and BMS connections shall be done as per approved shop drawings.

Once all these operations have been completed, the false ceiling may be installed, but a register cover must be kept below for future maintenance.

Grills of adequate size shall be provided in order to provide smooth return air for suction.
