GENERAL
Site preparation is one of the preliminary works to be done for starting construction works.
The selected construction site preparation need to be completed properly before the start of construction process.
Following factors are considered for the construction site preparation.
- First step of site preparation work is to remove all the scrubs or jungle if there exists any on the site for building construction.
- The whole area will be roughly leveled.
- The holes of the construction site will be filled with sands or rammed earth and leveled off as required or redirected by the authority.
- As a part of site preparation, the trees will be cut off and their roots are totally uprooted as directed by the authority.
- Before starting the work, permanent bench marks must be established at a suitable point in the construction site.
- The orientation and trench lines of the building should be correctly laid out in the construction site and the location for the storage and stacking of the materials should be definitely set on the ground in the site.
- Site preparation also includes fixing position of the site office, go downs, the guard and the labor shed, the access and existing roads for trucks and carts etc.
For site preparation work, we need to have certain instruments to do it properly. The must have things that we need includes the following.
- Fencing material or boards according to size of site
- Company placard
- Health and Safety signs
- Screws and screwdriver
- Shears, axes and shovels
- Heavy machinery if buildings have to be removed
- Skips
During construction site preparation, boundary line pillars are also to be fixed on the ground or as directed by the authority.
All of these will help you to prepare a site for starting the construction process.
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
The construction sequence of site preparation shall be as below:
clearing and grubbing —-> removal of trees —-> site cutting —-> site filling (on site cutting of soil) —-> Disposal

CONSTRUCTION METHOD
Clearing and Grubbing
Top soil stripping THK. = 200mm.
Areas to be excavated, graded or filled shall first be stripped of surface material, including all bush, debris, vegetation, seashells and organic or salt-contaminated soil, to the satisfaction of the owner/engineer.
Trees, grass and shrubs in work area to be cleaned to its roots.
All dirt and debris to be removed from the site by the contractor and disposed of in areas collected and/or acceptable to the responsible authorities.
The clearing and grubbing area is defined as projected area.
At this stage involves disposal of soil humus layer, demolition and clearing vegetation and debris within the work area. Implementation work workplace only includes a layer of fertile soil for plants and a maximum of 20 cm.
Prior to this work carried out should be measured existing conditions as a reference volume calculation.
Furthermore, this work using heavy equipment dozer and excavator, the thing to note is the road construction work to ensure the appliance can be up location.
After clearing, then performed repeated measurements current conditions. Which will be used as a reference design of the road.
Tree Removal
Cutting of trees which have diameters 300 mm and greater, shall be carried out and be collected and stored in designated location at the adjacent area. Tree CTC=2m (Assumed).
The removal area is defined as projected area.
Site Cutting
Removal of unstable soil for site filling within site area.
Cutting and excavation considering soil condition up to the required level.
Including compaction at required level. Including dewatering with a provision of sump and pump, if required.
Site Filling
Soil earth fill deposit spread and make up to levels including layered compacting and testing, trimming to lines and slope in accordance with ASTM or AASHTO Standards and procedures.
Disposal
To be disposed of at the areas designated by the owner, conforming to the appropriate authorities.
HSE CONTROL
Personnel who involve in this work must use safety protective equipment such as safety boots, hard hats, safety glove etc.
Personnel who involve in this work must be skilled and experienced.
All tools and equipment must be inspected first by competent persons.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Quality of material and work result will be ensured by project team which consist of Project Manager, Project Engineer, Site Manager, and Foreman.
