This instruction shall ensure dining rooms, food storage areas, kitchens, laundries, general storage areas and accommodation facilities are cleaned and maintained to the required standards.
HSE welfare method applies to all dining rooms, food storage areas, kitchens, laundries, general storage areas and accommodation facilities and includes provisions for inspection and cleaning of such facilities as they relate to a specific project site.
A system of scheduled cleaning procedures and inspections will be established, a register of all procedures and inspections is to be maintained.
All personnel will receive the appropriate training that is necessary for them to perform their allocated tasks in a safe manner.
Reporting of Defects and OHS Problems
A complaint book will be provided for all hygiene facilities.
The official nominated in charge of the facility will ensure that any relevant complaints are addressed within a time that is appropriate to the seriousness of the complaint, and feedback is provided to the originator.
Daily Inspections
a) All areas shall be inspected each day, by the official appointed in charge of the facility, or a person nominated by that official.
b) If the official, or his/her nominee, is of the opinion that the facilities do not meet reasonable standards of cleanliness and hygiene he/she will arrange for cleaning to be carried out.
Monthly Welfare Facilities Inspections
A Facility Inspection will be carried out by a Safety Representative every month, this inspection will be directed at testing compliance for all relevant elements including the following:
- Buildings and Areas – Housekeeping
- Lighting
- Ventilation
- Hygiene
- Portable Electrical Equipment
- Scrap and Refuse. Domestic Waste Disposal
- Hazardous Substances Control
- Fire Protection
- First Aid Facilities
- Emergency Assembly Points
